Entrepreneur Stories - Chrissy Alaby

Tell me a little a bit you

I was born in France and moved to the UK when I was 4 years old. I used to work in HR & recruitment supporting managers, CEOs & directors and although the role, in the beginning, was amazing, after a while I became jaded over the role and felt extremely unhappy, lost and stuck. Eventually, I couldn’t take feeling discontent and miserable anymore, which ignited the unshakable desire to pursue my own vision as a Leadership Coach & Inspirational Public Speaker for entrepreneurs.

How long have you been an entrepreneur?

1.5 years

What ignited the spark in you to start a new business venture or to make significant changes in an existing business?

For a very long time, I played the victim by believing that I had to work a 9-5 job so that I could pay the bills, have a comfortable home and go on holiday twice a year. I felt I had to follow what my friends were doing with their careers and follow the norm in general. Otherwise, if I didn’t work then I felt I would be judged for being ‘unintelligent’ and ‘lazy’. Working in HR also kept me feeling safe and in my comfort zone. But after two years went by, I felt an intense need for more. I wanted a challenge and a new direction. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, and I certainly didn’t believe or even allowed myself to believe that I could have my own business. I just knew I was in the wrong job, doing the wrong thing and I couldn’t take being so unhappy anymore. It reached a point where it was too painful. I had to take action.

And so I did. I came home one night from a mundane day at work and made a promise to myself. I said to myself with absolute certainty ‘I will only do what makes me happy’. And from that day forward my whole world shifted. I started doing things I never imagined I’d be doing. I started transforming as a person. I was finally stepping out of my comfort zone.

From that day forth, an unforgettable moment happened whereby I realized that I was the one that had caused this unhappiness within me all this time. I knew this because I was the one creating these stories as to why I needed to follow the norm and stick to a job I hated. I made up these rules that if I left I could loose the security I was so determined to nurture… at the detriment of my own happiness. When I realized this, I knew I could change my world and create new possibilities that would allow me the break the chains that kept me locked in.

I knew I could take full ownership and control in order to create a life of freedom and true happiness. And so I left my job and went soul searching. I’ve never looked back since.

How did the idea for your business come about?

During my soul searching journey, I wanted to find out I truly am. What I’m really good at and what my true passion is. And so I hired a coach and I did a life purpose course online. In that course and with my coach I discovered what my values are and what my top 5 strengths are. Not only did I discover what they were but I embodied them. And in that embodiment, I transformed into a powerful, confident and fearless individual. A person I never imagined I would become.

You see, a lot of people know their strengths but they don’t use them, or they don’t have a job that allows them to utilise them to the fullest. That’s self-defeating because you miss a vital part of yourself day in and day out. That is why I am such a strong believer in tapping into your core values and strengths and living into them every day. The more you discover who you truly are from within and you then live in alignment with your true self, you become unstoppable.

I literally utilise my strengths every day, if that doesn’t increase self-esteem and confidence then I don’t know what else would.

Create your life around your greatest gifts, strength, and values and you will create a new horizon of possibilities, freedom, and happiness from within you.

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Being entrepreneurs is all about – 40% business planning and strategy and 60 % mindset development.Yet so many people feel it’s the other way round.

Many entrepreneurs work on their business but do not work on their mindset. That’s one of the reasons businesses fail because entrepreneurs don’t invest in developing their mindset to create the resilience necessary to go through the challenges that the entrepreneurial journey entails.

And so I believe that the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur are resilience, patience, and persistence. If you have those three skills the business operations, planning and strategy become easier and as an entrepreneur, you are more likely to not only succeed but become a well rounded, visionary and powerful individual.

And these top three skills can be learned. Even if you’re currently the most impatient person you know, for example. If you are passionate about succeeding you will do what it takes to become resilient, patient and persistent.

What do you need to do to be successful in business?

To be successful in business you need to invest the time in developing yourself as a person. You need to cultivate the self-belief that you can achieve your goals. Once you have done that, you need to create your own vision for your business and let that motivate and compel you forwards without the need of approval from other people.

Once you have the self-belief and your vision you will begin to use your creativity to grow your business in a sustainable way. Your passion will exclude out of you and people will be drawn to you. You will create new opportunities.

But most importantly, you will be able to manage all the set backs, failure, and struggles that are in fact the ingredient to success. Without them, our efforts wouldn’t be worth it.

What motivates you to keep going?

My vision and my self-belief keep me going.

My reasons for having my own business keeps me going.

My increasing clarity into who I am and why I’m on this earth keeps me going.

And most importantly, my fear of dying with regret because I didn’t pursue my ideas & goals because of fear keeps me flying upwards like a rocket ship!

How far are you willing to go to succeed?

I am willing to mess up. I am willing to make loads of mistakes. I am willing the fail and learn from failure.

And I must add that to me failure doesn’t exist. If you fail at something it means there is a lesson to be learned so that you can succeed the next time around.

Failure doesn’t have to be negative, failure is where the magic happens IF you learn from them, correct yourself and try again until you succeed.

You can change your methods, strategies, and implementations, but don’t change your goals and your ultimate vision. Don’t stop…Because that’s when you might feel like a failure.

What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear?

I just got chills when you asked me that lol. Reaching an old age and feeling like I HAVEN’T PURSUED MY GOALS, BECAUSE OF FEAR, doubt or any other reason. Dying with regret. That scares me.

I manage it by using that fear to pull me forwards. When I feel resistance towards a goal I see myself as an old woman about to take my last breath, laughing and crying at the stupidity of not taking action on my goal. That gives me the kick I need to JUST DO IT.

What three pieces of advice would you give to someone just starting out

-       Be willing to go on an endless journey; an endless journey of self-discovery and learning. The more you can understand who you are the more you understand where you’re going & what you are creating in your life.

-       Be willing and committed to working on your mindset – not just working on your business. Work on confidence, self-belief, negative self-talk, fears and coming out of your comfort zone. Get the support you need with that.

-       Work on your business not purely in your business. Get a good bird’s eye of your business. Have a map that you can see and use to guide you to the next steps towards achieving your goals.

How do you define success?

For me, it means discovering who you truly are once you’ve worked through and dissolved all of your doubts, fears, self-inflicted restrictions, worries, stresses.

That’s when we experience true freedom.

Who has been your greatest inspiration?

My dad, because he is resilient, determined and strong.

What is your favorite aspect of being an entrepreneur?

Getting to do what I actually want to do, when I want.

Being creative and self-expressive.

What has been your most satisfying moment in business?

When my clients experience life changing breakthroughs!

What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?

I enjoy going to comedy clubs, going to the cinema and going on weekend trips with my husband.

What makes you happy?

Knowing that I am growing as a person.

Being around people I love and who love me.

Being surrounded by beautiful nature.

Being spontaneous.

My Leadership Coaching and Inspirational Speaking business too :)

I’ve had to let go of the regular income I was receiving from my full-time job

      Socialize a lot less

Stop going clothes shopping & little to no spending on pampering products

Stop watching TV (I lost interest either way)

Where do you see yourself and your business in 10 years? 20 years?
